Is Acne Free Better Than Proactiv?
What is AcneFree?
One of the most popular products in the industry, Acne Free is a benzoyl peroxide based acne fighting product with a 3 piece kit. They have a scrub, toner, and moisturizing lotion, and you can generally find their product readily available at common stores such as Walmarts and Rite Aids across the country. Their original formula is based on benzoyl peroxide, and they claim to use a timed release formula making them effectively speaking, better than the competition. But for many, the question still remains, does Acne Free acutally work?
History of AcneFree
Acne Free is the original copycat to the ever popular Proactiv. And they quickly became the most popular alternative. They were first recognized for providing essentially the same product for a cheaper price. But since 2009, many consumers have found that Proactiv dropped their price to match that of the original Acne Free at just $19.99, while still offering free gifts that Acne Free does not. However, Acne Free claims that the difference lies in the idea that clinical studies show that their product works better due to a time released formula. They do not however produce these supposed clinical studies, and their formula as far as we can tell is actually no different than that of Proactiv.
Benefits
Like other benzoyl peroxide based formulas such as Proactiv, Acne Free can get rid of some cases of acne basically by drying out the skin and making it a hostile environment for bacteria. It kills off bacteria quickly, but there are studies that show that it actually makes the skin rebound quite quickly, nurturing greater breakouts should you stop using the product at any point in time.
Side Effects
Side effects of Acne Free are those of benzoyl peroxide. They include redness, itching, dryness, peeling, irritation, and sensitivity to the sun. They are worse for some individuals than others.
Conclusion
As a copycat, though they may be cheaper, Acne Free is no better than its predecessor, Proactiv. It doesn’t work for every case, sometimes even making acne worse during use, and without question causing damage and other side effects to the skin. Our research has shown that there are definitely better alternatives.

Product: Clean and clear and acnefree
“At first clean and clear worked great. For about three months I had no acne at all. Then one morning i woke up and my skin was very red and peeling everywhere. Then the next morning I had terrible acne on my forehead and chin. I kept using the product thinking it would go away. Howevrer, it did not. It actually got worse. It got so bad I switched over to acnefree. Acnefree felt a lot better on my skin. It did not irratate it like clean and clear did. All the redness and acne have gone away and I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m back to having clear, perfect skin.”

“I\\\'ve been using AcneFree for about a week now, and I\\\'m so excited! My acne, (which had gotten more severe than I\\\'d like to admit) has cleared up. It has dried my face out, but I apply moisturizer and that seems to help. I\\\'m just left with these horrible scars! :/”

“This product is horrible! I\\\\\\\'ve only used it since Friday, today is Thursday, and yes it did help clear some blackheads and major pimples. But, it burnt my face! Yes, like a sunburn. My face is bright red right now, and hurts whenever I touch it. Unfortenately, it is aroung my eyes and I have glasses, So it looks like I fell asleep in the sun with my glasses on! I am discontinuing the use of this product immediately.”

“I used the acnefree 3 piece kit last night (just once) and today my face is bright red, itchy and so sore, it feel like it is burning and hurts to touch. It also swelled up and looks like someone punched me. I am so mad i wasted all that money on something i can not use.”

“I have mixed feelings about AcneFree. I first started using it on a Friday. For the first couple of days my face felted so smooth, but on Monday my face started to become irritated and I had these little bumps all over my face and it was swelling a little bit. It seems like every where I would scratch, I would break out in these little bumps and hives on my arms and neck (I don\\\'t have acne on my arms or neck.). I then remembered that 10 years ago I tried Clearsil (Peroxide) & that product did the same thing. I stop using step 3 (Peroxide) and continued to do Steps 1 (Face Wash) and Step 2 (Toner). On Friday (4/16/10) I noticed that my swelling and bumps are almost gone and even though my blemishes have lighten up a little, my face is much smoother with the exception of a few pimples. I read the Step 3 (Peroxide) information and use and it says, \\\"Apply as needed\\\" so I\\\'m assuming you just take a Q-Tip with some Step 3 on the tip, and dab it on your pimples.(?) I also have some dry patches on my face (Chin), but I\\\'m assuming this is suppose to happen, right? I wear oil free make up so the make up will cover it up. I\\\'m gonna continue to use this product for 3 more weeks or until the bottles are empty and if I don\\\'t see any results then I\\\'m just gonna get back on birth control pills again. Birth control pills have always cleared up my acne.”

Product: AcneFree
“It works. It kept the blemishes away, unlike Proactive or anything else. Not only does the product work, but you can buy it at stores. Proactive makes you become a member and charge you every couple months even if you don\\\'t need it, not to mention it doesn\'t keep the blemishes away once you stop using it. I would definitely recommend Acnefree over any other acne system.”

“Ive used Kear Action for 6 years and had absolutely no breakouts. When all stores replaced Klear Action with Acne Free I started getting pimples again.rnThe problem is Acne Free\\\\\\\'s cleanser DOES NOT exfoliate, despite what the product website says. Now I\\\\\\\'m forced to order Klear Action online which is a hassle. I do not recommend AcneFree.”
